Would you like to learn to make glass beads?

Beginner's Taster Session

I'm offering taster sessions in glass beadmaking of 2 hours for £30.  This includes any materials used and useful training helpsheets on subjects such as Beadmaking Basics, Working With Glass, Studio Set Up and Cleaning Bead Holes.  You will learn how to make a round bead, add dots, pull stringer and use gravity and heat to shape the glass.  If time permits we will go on to further techniques such as plunged dots, raking stringer and adding coloured frits.

 

Improvers

One-to-one session for improvers, teaching can be from 2 to 4 hours at £15 an hour.  Pick and mix from the following:

Fun things to do with..

• Dots - twisting, masking, scale pattern and layering

• Frits - applying, twisting with stringer, gravity twist, encasing

• Bead Shapes - using presses and hand shaping using heat and gravity
  

• Encasing - how to encase, distortion effects

• Canes - Two colour twisty, encased cane, striped cane

• Metal Foils - silver, palladium and gold.  Silvered ivory stringer, encased foil bead
  

I will also teach other techniques on request.

 

For all courses you keep any beads that I demonstrate and all the beads that we make will be kiln annealed and posted on to you.  I teach on a dual fuel torch (Nortel Minor Burner) using an oxygen concentrator.  I also have a Nortel Mega Burner which is used with 2 concentrators to make larger beads.
